5 Charles Street
This house, originally quite simple, was built in the 1990s by George Holt, when the neighborhood was still transitional. In 2016, the new owner commissioned us to completely renovate the structure and make it one of the most striking new houses downtown. We gutted the interior and rebuilt it with ornate wood paneling and extensive built ins, styled with a Jacobean flair to match the stepped parapets. On the garden-façade, we changed all the windows to French doors, and added a cantilevered porch. Designed as a collaboration between George Holt, Andrew Gould, Tom Podhrazsky, and Renée Killian-Dawson.
