Saints Constantine and Elena, Indianapolis, IN
Saints Constantine and Elena Romanian Orthodox Church, built in 1948, has the simple Protestant-influenced interior typical of Orthodox churches of the period. After years of effort with decorations and furnishings, it was clear to the parish that merely cosmetic enhancements could not make the space feel like a real Orthodox temple. Andrew proposed a more substantial intervention - columns and arches to transform the space into a three-aisle basilica, along with wood-paneled ceilings, chandeliers, and an open loft in the back. The woodwork is detailed similarly to that of a Romanian village church to coordinate with the imported iconostasis.
The plan is approved and financed with construction expected to begin soon.
