Saint Sava Orthodox Church
A proposed design for a large church and parish complex in Texas. The lot is difficult, being at the intersection of two noisy highways. Andrew decided to surround the complex with a tall wall to create a protected sanctuary where visitors can avoid the sight and sound of the highways. The complex would appear from the outside rather like the old Spanish missions which are so iconic of Texas. The church is designed as though it were an ancient Italo-Byzantine basilica that subsequently acquired Spanish Baroque additions. Construction would be solid masonry with a timber-truss ceiling.
