Saint John Monastery Chapel
The monastery of St. John Maximovich in Cobleskill, NY, asked Andrew to design their new chapel, with an unusual caveat - it was to be created within the shell of a former racquetball court at their newly-acquired property! Andrew thickened and plastered the walls and added clerestory windows with canted openings. The design also includes a coffered wood-paneled ceiling, and an exquisite floor using tiles handmade in Nicaragua. Andrew collaborated with a Romanian wood-carving studio to develop the design for the extensive woodwork that lines the walls of the room. Currently under construction, this previously blank and windowless room is becoming a jewel box of Byzantine liturgical beauty.
