This icon kiot holds a copy of the miracle-working icon from the village of Máriapócs (Hungary). Since the original icon was painted in the 17th century in a folkish manner, I thought it would be appropriate to design the shrine in a sort of 'village baroque' style. Built from reclaimed heart pine with a tung-oil varnish. Located at Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Whiting, Indiana.
