266 Ashley Avenue
This infill development in Downtown Charleston is one of the most advanced in the city, both in terms of efficient planning and innovative technologies. We are combining two existing lots to create a new street, and plan to build ten new houses behind the two historic ones. Due to the extremely narrow site, the houses are tall and thin. A central courtyard around an existing tree will serve as shared space for the residents. All the buildings are being fitted with geothermal heat pumps, tankless gas water heaters, spray-foam insulation, and double-sash windows for maximum energy efficiency. Construction began in 2008. Tour of the neighborhood in 2011.
