Mosaic Wood Carving Ceramics Stained Glass Silica Paint 'Fresco' Metalwork
A mosaic icon of Christ Pantocrator, finished in 2003. Andrew wanted to replicate the materials and lustres of the mosaics he had seen in Rome and Constantinople, and found he would need to make most of the tesserae himself, modern smalti being too uniform. He made the robes from opalescent stained glass, the flesh from Italian marble, and the hair and greenish shading from glazed ceramic. The gold and black are Italian smalti.
